This file comprises records documenting University management retreats supported by the Office of Planning and Academic Implementation (later renamed as Office of Strategic and Academic Planning and Strategic Planning Office). Includes memoranda, meeting notes, data sheets, reports and bound volumes regarding the use of the Management Information and Control System (MICS) at the Colleges of Education and the Hong Kong Technical Teachers' College.

With an organisation chart showing the structure of the Management Board and its various Director's Committees, along with their respective terms of reference and membership lists.

The Management Board (MB) was established to:

• review and formulate major policies affecting the the Institite's day-to-day operations;
• monitor the effectiveness of administrative policies and operating procedures;
• assist with resource allocation;
• review, formulate and approve long range management plans; and
• improve communication among the various departments and branches of the Institute.

The MB was dissolved on 2 September 2003.

The file includes the minutes of the final meeting, a memo announcing the dissolution, and papers documenting the establishment of the MB and its governance structure at the time.

The file comprises records relating to LLA Pacific Limited (LLA), the consultancy firm engaged to support the Hong Kong Institute of Education’s strategic planning process. The records include proposal, contract terms, correspondence, reports, and invoices for professional services.

File list:
1) Unconfirmed minutes of the Board of Social and Business Studies Committee on Joint Academic Development and Research meeting. The purpose of the committee is to promote joint research and academic development among cognate department and with other departments within the Institute.

2) Minutes of meeting of the Promotion Committees for Principal Lectureship and Senior Lectures. The scheme aimed to provide career progression for serving staff to continually upgrade themselves, and to recognise outstanding performance and other academic contributions.

3) Papers related to the 1996-97 internal promotion scheme for academic staff.

This file includes memoranda and meeting notes regarding the establishment of the Institute of Language in Education, which was overseen by the Working Party on Institute of Language in Education. College members of the Working Party on Colleges of Education were invited to comment on the proposal for the establishment of an Institute of Language in Education under the Education Department.

It also includes correspondence between the Joint College of Education Students Union and the Education Department regarding employment opportunities for college students in 1980.

The objectives of the image study were:
1) to assess the community’s awareness to the HKIEd;
2) to indicate the public understanding on the institute of a key provider of teacher’s education;
3) to assess the perceived image of the HKIEd and its ranking among local UGC-funded education institutes; and
4) to assess the intention of studying at the HKIEd and the tendency of recommending the others to study at the HKIEd.

The image study was conducted by Consumer Search on 9 April 1998 and was submitted to Office of Planning and Academic Implementation.
