The collection documents the development, governance, administration, academic planning, and institutional activities of the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd). It also includes records relating to the planning and implementation of the merger of the former colleges and institutions of education that resulted in the establishment of HKIEd in 1994.

Records include minutes, correspondence, reports, strategic and academic planning records, policy documents, publications, photographs, audiovisual materials, and other records relating to the operation and development of HKIEd.

The collection provides evidence of the establishment and evolution of HKIEd as Hong Kong's principal teacher education institution and documents key developments leading to its attainment of university status in 2016.
