Administrative history

The Office of Academic Implementation renamed the Office of Planning and Academic Implementation (PAI) in early 1998 to support three central planning aspects of the Institute, namely, academic manpower planning, academic planning and strategic planning. The office collaborated with the Management Information Systems section of the Office of Information Technology and Services to develop a management information system that facilitates strategic and manpower planning within the institute.

Dr Lai Kwok-chan served as Head of the Office until his retirement in June 2012.

Scope and content

The Executive Information System (EIS) was a web-based system aimed to provide one-stop pool of useful management information including academic manpower data, Institute's student number for the 1998-2001 and 2001-2004 triennia, and some Key Performance Indicators for the Institute's Strategic Planning to the management to facilitate decision-making.

This file comprises records relating to the planning, development, training, and testing of the EIS. Materials include training session notes, training manuals, system demonstration materials, and documents concerning proposed access rights for users.

The file also contains reference sources from other universities’ EIS implementations, as well as correspondence and documentation relating to the User Acceptance Testing for the pilot phase.
