This deposit consists of records relating to the development and review of full-time and part-time courses which were offered by the Colleges of Education, the Hong Kong Technical Teachers' College and the Institute of Language in Education between 1975 and 1988. The records include proposed syllabuses, minutes, memoranda, surveys, discussion papers and reports.

Regarding the comments given by Grantham College of Education on the proposed syllabuses of fourteen elective subjects of the new full-time courses offered at the Colleges of Education from September 1980; also contains the proposed syllabuses of eight elective subjects, including Art and Design, Chinese, Chinese History, Primary Studies, English, Economic and Public Affairs, Geography, and Health Science.

Includes the proposed syllabi of sixteen elective subjects of the new full-time courses offered at the Colleges of Education from September 1980.

Includes suggested syllabuses of the common and college units of both English, an elective subject, and English Language Skills, a core curriculum programme, of the full-time courses offered at the Colleges of Education and the Hong Kong Technical Teachers' College ("HKTTC"). Both the common and college units were developed jointly by the English Departments of the Colleges of Education and HKTTC. The common units were available for study at all four Colleges, whereas the college units were offered specifically to students enrolled at a particular College.

Includes draft syllabi of the college units offered by the Music Department at Northcote College of Education for the full-time two-year and three-year courses; and first draft of the units developed jointly by the Science Departments of the Colleges of Education for the full-time two-year and three-year courses.

Includes proposed syllabi of the common and college units of Social Studies for the full-time two-year course. Among the Colleges of Education, only Northcote College of Education and Grantham College of Education offered Social Studies as an elective subject for the full-time two-year course.

Includes memoranda and meeting notes regarding the establishment of the Institute of Language in Education.

Includes minutes, memoranda, correspondence and reports of the Teacher Education Consultative Committee, which was part of a two-tier consultative committee composed of Principals of the Colleges of Education, the Education Department, the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, to better coordinate teacher education matters in Hong Kong.

The series consists of minutes and/or discussion papers of the intra-college committees, study units and working groups of Northcote College of Education.

The college committees, study units and working groups were created to advise the Principal on the organisation and content of college courses and activities, on future planning and inter-college cooperation and on domestic matters within Northcote College of Education. Some of these committees were standing while others were set up as the need arises. In some of the committees, students were also represented.
